PORT HURON — A new business seeking to offer a cozy atmosphere to customers has opened in the Wrigley Center.

Beth Welser, owner of Dot’s Candy Bar, had wanted to open a storefront in the Wrigley Center, 318 Grand River Ave., since she first heard about the food hall and entertainment venue. She checked off that box when her shop offering unique things people usually can't find in Port Huron opened its doors March 8.

“It feels so rewarding,” Welser said. “I feel like I’ve crossed off a bucket list item.”

Despite its name, Dot’s Candy Bar offers more than just candy. Customers can find cakes, cookies and other baked goods made in house, as well as ice cream, dole whip and custard.

The business also sells products from local vendors, such as bread from Mi Deli, 1133 10th Ave. Honey and maple syrup harvested from Goodells Township and Fort Gratiot also are available.

In all, Dot's Candy Bar sells 180 different items. Welser said products will rotate to allow the business to introduce new things as they come in.

Welser said Dot’s Candy Bar will offer soups and sandwiches to customers in the future.

She noted the Wrigley Center soon will have food kiosks selling things like sushi and Nicaraguan food. She said she wanted to sell comfort food.

“They’ll have the specialty stuff, and I’ll have the grandma stuff,” she said.

Welser has wanted to open a store like Dot’s Candy Bar since she was 5 years old, and she said the reception over the first two weeks of business has been amazing.

“It’s been a very positive experience so far,” Welser said. “We’ve had a wonderful reception from the loft tenants and people from the community.”
