VADODARA: Son of a tailor is cuts a better future for his family. As the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICAI) declared the results of intermediate and final stages of cost and management accountancy (CMA) course, Vadodara-based Jay Chauhan bagged All India Rank (AIR) 9 in CMA final stage.
Vivek Rathod, whose father Ranjit Rathod drives a tempo, also qualified as cost and management accountant. “I want to secure a stable job in a MNC,” said Vivek, who cleared the final stage of CMA with first attempt by scoring 238 marks with exemption in two subjects. He is a resident of Karelibaug. His mother Nita is a homemaker. “I had cleared my BCom and MCom with distinction and now I have cleared CMA as well,” said Vivek, thanking his father, the office-bearers of the Baroda chapter of ICAI and relatives for providing all support.
For Jay, whose father Pravin earns a living by handling seasonal tailoring jobs, it was for the second consecutive time that he bagged an AIR in CMA. Last year, he had bagged the same national rank by bagging AIR 9 at the intermediate stage of CMA.
“We live in a rented house; my family’s financial condition is not good. I want to construct my own house and ensure a stable source of income to my family,” said Jay, who scored 510 out of 800 marks. After finishing his BCom and later MCom from MS University in 2018, Jay had even taken up a job with a manufacturing firm.
“But after working for over three years, I realized that my salary was low compared to others who were earning more than me just because of the degree that they were holding. It was then that I realized the need of earning a professional degree. My father motivated me to go ahead with further studies,” said Jay, whose mother Rita is a homemaker. Jay, a resident of Panchvati area of Gorwa, persuaded his CMA. “I am proud that I could clear CMA and bag AIR purely on basis of self-study without any coaching,” said the 27-year-old.
In all, eight students from the Baroda chapter of ICAI qualified as CMAs.
