Self-proclaimed godman held for killing lover's son in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr

MEERUT: A police team in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr district on Tuesday arrested a 60-year-old self-styled 'godman', who had been absconding for over two years, for allegedly murdering his lover's son.
According to police officials, the accused, identified as Sujaan Singh, strangled Amar Singh (32) to death and dumped his body in a forest in January 2021.
Later that month, police had recovered the partially-burnt body of Amar from the area in the district. During the investigation, police found that Amar was last seen with Sujaan, after which they launched a manhunt to nab him.
The officials said that the accused was arrested along with an illegal country-made pistol from a village temple in Salempur area of Bulandshahr district, where he had been hiding after committing the gruesome murder.
Shlok Kumar, senior superintendent of police (SSP), Bulandshahr, told TOI that, "Sujaan Singh was wanted in connection with the murder of Amar Singh, a resident of Aligarh, as he opposed the illicit relationship between his mother and the accused."
Sujaan, said the SSP, brought Amar by bus to Ahmedgarh "where he strangled him to death."
He added, "Later, he burnt his face and dumped the body in a forest. He was absconding after that for almost two years and got caught only after we received a tip-off."
"Both Sujaan Singh and Amar Singh knew each other for several years as Amar had bailed out Sujaan in a murder case in 2016," the SSP further added.
A total of 10 cases had been registered against him, of which three were of murder and others of loot, at police stations in Aligarh and Bulandshahr districts. "He was produced before the court and sent to jail on Tuesday," said SSP Kumar.
According to police officials, Sujaan Singh is accused of killing a man in the year 1994 for which he was sent to jail. Getting out on bail after being imprisoned for nearly a decade, he killed another man in 2016 in the Harduaganj area of Aligarh, they added.
However, he was then bailed out by Amar Singh. Since then, he had developed an illicit relationship with the youth's mother, the police officials claimed.
