Jaipur: Chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday said that crime rate has reduced by 5% in 2022 as compared to 2019. However, the number of crimes has increased in 17 states during this period. An increase of 69% has been registered in Gujarat, 24% in Haryana and 20% in Madhya Pradesh, he said.
He was addressing the convocation parade ceremony of the 53rd batch of trainee RPS officers at
Rajasthan Police Academy.
He said that the prevention of crimes against women is the main priority of the state government. The investigation time for rape crimes in the state has come down from 274 to 68 days, while the investigation time for POCSO has come down from 232 to 66 days.
He said, in 12 POCSO cases, death sentences have been awarded, in 466 rape cases to 20 years to life imprisonment, and 750 to other sentences. A special investigation unit for crime against women has been established at the district level for speedy
justice to women. In order to improve the administrative management in the police, a system of weekly leave for the policemen is also being launched, he said.
The CM said that due to the good work done by the Rajasthan police, the law and order in the state is under control. He said that the mandatory registration of FIR has simplified the process of registering criminal cases.
He said, crimes related to cybercrime, drugs, illegal weapons and land mafia dealt with a heavy hand. Heinous crime units, mobile units, etc., are also being operated by the state government in the police force. He said that women, children, the protection of weaker sections and quick resolution of their problems were given top priority. The state government is working with commitment to ensure the proper representation of women in every field. The result of this is that the number of women in the Rajasthan police has increased. Among the 35 trainees passing out today, there are 13 women police officers.
