Ugadi celebrated with gaiety in Berhampur
Berhampur: The Telugu population of Silk City celebrated Udagi with pomp and gaiety to usher in the New Year. There were poetry recitations, distribution of “ugadi pachadi” and cultural programmes. “Panchanga sravanam” or listening to the annual prediction was held in various Telugu organisations and temples.
“We invited people to participate in ‘panchanga sravanam’ and other programmes to mark Ugadi,” said P Satya Narayana, president of Andhra Bhasa Bibardhani Samajam, an organisation of Telugu-speaking people. “We celebrated the festival by distributing ‘pachadi’ among family and friends. We also invited people, including Odias,” said Srinibash Rao.
The pachadi is prepared from a paste of newly-harvested mangoes, jaggery, neem flowers, turmeric, chilli and salt, said Nageswara Rao, a teacher.
