Prayagraj: With the aim of enhancing academic quality, the prof Rajendra Singh (Rajju Bhaiya) State University (PRSU) will conduct centralised admission
test for professional courses being offered either by it or its affiliated colleges from the coming academic session (2023-24).
This includes both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Online applications for the same would be available from next month.
The state university will also start several new professional courses including five-year law course, BCA, MCA along with existing courses like BEd and MEd.
“Although we are still mulling over the admission guidelines, but this is for sure that the minimum eligibility criterion, in terms of marks obtained in intermediate (for admission in UG courses) and in undergraduate course (for admission in PG courses), would not be less than the one followed last year,” said vice chancellor prof Akhilesh Singh.
As per the last year guideline, which has been approved by the Academic Council (AC) and the Executive Council (EC) of the state university, for admission to UG courses, general and OBC candidates must have scored 40% marks in intermediate. Students with less marks will not get admission in any college of the state university. Likewise, SC-ST candidates must score 35% or more marks in intermediate. On the other hand, for admission to PG courses, the students should have scored a minimum mark in graduation. For admission in professional courses, scoring 50% marks is mandatory for general and OBC candidates and 45% for SC-ST candidates. There are 657 colleges affiliated to PRSU in the Prayagraj division (Prayagraj, Pratapgarh, Kaushambi and Fatehpur).
“Admission in professional courses in PRSU and colleges will be done through a joint entrance test. This includes LLB three-year, LLB five-year, BBA, BCA, BSc Agriculture, MSc Agriculture, MEd, BPEd, MEd, BLib and MLib courses,” said senior faculty member of the department of philosophy, Avinash Kumar Srivastava.
Interestingly, this is not the first time that any university in the Sangam city has decided to introduce the criteria of minimum marks for admission in UG courses to improve the overall quality of the university as Allahabad University too had introduced a somewhat similar criterion for admission in UG courses a few years back. However, due to pressure from student leaders, the same was withdrawn.
In this backdrop, PRSU administration has continued with the minimum marks criteria for the second year in a row.
