SURAT: A six-year-old boy belonging to a tribal migrant family died due to multiple dog bite injuries on Wednesday in the Bhestan area of the city.
Since February 8, this is the fourth dog bite death in Surat, three of which were reported from the city and one from rural area. The boy was answering nature's call in the open when a pack of stray dogs attacked him while his mother was away for work.
The woman returned hearing the screams of other children. In the incident, Sahil Damore, a native of Jhabua in Madhya Pradesh, died within minutes of being attacked by dogs on Wednesday afternoon. The boy lived in a shanty near a construction site. His father Rasool had gone out in search of work while the mother was at home.
After rescuing the boy from the jaws of the canines, the mother took the boy to a nearby hospital where his condition was declared to be critical. He was taken to New Civil Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) authorities launched a drive to catch dogs from the area following the incident. “Total 12 dogs were caught from the area and search is on for more. We have intensified the sterilisation and vaccination of dogs,” said a health officer.
