In his complaint, Avtar’s cousin Gurdit Singh said on October 20, 2018, he along with his cousin and friends had gone to see Dussehra. At 6.50pm, they left from Doraha in an auto-rickshaw for Dhandari Kalan. On the way, Jaspreet called up Avtar and asked him to come to a programme. Though Gurdit stopped Avtar from going, Jaspreet along with his maternal uncle’s son Inderpal Singh stopped their auto-rickshaw.
Jaspreet asked Avtar to accompany them. When Avtar Singh did not return for a long time, he along with his uncle Kuldeep Singh went to Doraha to search for him. They came to know that Avtar Singh along with Jaspreet Jassa, his cousin Inderpal Singh and Gurpal Singh had gone to Satnam Nagar railway crossing. He and Kuldeep went to Mallipur and came to know that Avtar was found lying injured on road and was admitted to a hospital in Doraha. Thereafter they came to know that Avtar was attacked with sharp-edged weapons and was admitted to the hospital in a very serious condition. When they reached DMC hospital, Avtar had died.
