Police raided Mallanna's office at Peerzadiguda on Tuesday night and took him into custody. On Wednesday, Rachakonda police issued a statement alleging that Mallanna (47) of Q News and four others - Bandaru Ravinder (29), editor in Q News, Uppala Nikhil (19), driver, Sirra Sudhakar (34), office boy, and Chintha Sandeep Kumar (36), a software engineer from Warangal, wrongfully confined the two constables of LB Nagar Special Operations Team (SOT) at Q News office and attacked them.
Cops said three men with lathis confronted constables A Bhanu and R Sai Ram near Raghavendra Bhavan in Peerzadiguda around 8 pm on Tuesday and sought to know their identity while they were checking vehicles. Even after the constables told them they were cops, the trio forcibly took them to the nearby Q News office, police said.
"After the trio told Mallanna that the cops were found loitering near their office, he asked them to bring the constables into his room where they were thrashed severely. Mallanna assaulted them with a stick. After coming to know of the incident, other police personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the constables," Rachakoda police said through an official statement.
A case was registered against the accused under IPC sections 363, 342, 395, 332, 307 and Section 7 (1) of Criminal Amendment Act - 1932. The accused were produced before the court and, except for Sandeep, the other accused including Mallanna were sent to judicial remand for 14 days, Malkajgiri ACP P Naresh Reddy said.
A few days ago Q News office was ransacked and Mallanna had alleged that it was an act of BRS workers.
