Noida sector-51 residents complain of high TDS and sewer overflow

NOIDA: Residents of Sector 51 have been complaining of poor quality water, with a TDS over 2000, along with sewer overflow for over 20 days now. The sector has many senior residents who are facing health hazards due to both issues. Residents have made several complaints to the authority without any redress. Fear of mosquito breeding is now beginning to arise alongside the pre-existing issues.
Swaran Kaur Chawla Shah, 84, a resident of E block, Sector 51, complained that she has been suffering due to a continuous sewer overflow problem in front of her house. “The foul smell from the sewer is unbearable and leads to breathing issues as well,” she said.
“Noida authority is playing with the health of the residents as it's unable to provide clean, potable water. Even after increasing the charge on water bills every year, they fail to provide quality water,” said C-block resident Saurabh Jain.
A high TDS of 2065 was reported from the sector on Wednesday, and residents maintain that the situation has been this way for over two weeks now. “The auspicious Chaitra Navratri began today, but our plight was to deal with foul-smelling sewer water overflow and high TDS of over 2000 in our sector for nearly 20 days now,” said Sanjeev Kumar, RWA general secretary of Sector 51.
According to Kumar, officials of the Noida authority sewer and water department, in a meeting held on November 16 last year, had promised that sewers will be cleaned within 10 days and that the problem will not recur.
When contacted, RP Singh, deputy general manager (DGM) of the Noida authority water and sewer department, told TOI that the Ganga water supply is disrupted from the Ghaziabad plant due to a glitch. “The supply is expected to resume from Thursday and, subsequently, the high TDS problem will be resolved. We will also get the sewers cleaned,” said Singh.
