City police arrests 5 in extortion case
Jaipur: The city police rested five persons of the Rohit Godara gang after they extorted a sum of Rs 20 lakh from a city-based trader. Police have identified the accused as Kapil Pandit, Shiv Bhulleri, Yogesh, Sandeep, and Rakesh alias Rocky Bagra. As per police, the accused, last year abducted a trader and took him to a secluded place at gunpoint. They released the victim after taking the extortion amount of Rs 20 lakh. They also threatened him with dire consequences if he reported the incident to anyone.
Police learnt about the matter and launched a major search operation for the suspects after the trader finally decided to file a complaint. As per police, all the accused are notorious criminals who have been working for Godara for the past many months now.
“Godara fled the country on a fake passport a couple of years ago, but he remains in contact with his gang members in India,” said an official.
Police said that the trader was so scared that he did not immediately approach the police.
“We are also trying to draw a list of other suspects who helped the gang in organising this crime,” the official added.
The Jaipur police for the past several days have been trying to locate Godara. They have also approached other agencies to bring him back to India.
Gangster Ritik Boxer, who was held on Monday, also worked for Godara. “We expect that Boxer’s interrogation will help us track down several members of the Godara gang who are operating in Rajasthan,” said the official. Police said that all the arrested accused are being grilled by police with the help of different police agencies.
