Local artisans to showcase craft at UPID’s exhibition

NOIDA: State-run university Uttar Pradesh Institute of Design (UPID), is set to organise an exhibition on campus in collaboration with the Industrial Entrepreneurs Association (IEA), Noida. Praveen Pachauri, director of UPID, told TOI that over 60 SMEs will showcase their works in various fields; including electronic products, artisan works and automation, among others.
“The exhibition will be for both business to business (B2B) and B2C platforms. We aim to provide a platform to the start-ups and entrepreneurs of Uttar Pradesh, focusing on the local businesses,” said Pachauri. He added that the institution is currently awaiting permission from the state government.
“Tentatively, we will conduct the exhibition in April or May, this year,” Pachauri said. He further stated that the participating companies which will showcase their products will provide career opportunities to the students of UPID.
“We are looking for UPID students to join our industry partners and we will offer internship opportunities through these collaborations. We have registered 60 companies until now. The companies are 3-4 years old on average,” said Sanjeev Sharma, general secretary, Industrial Entrepreneurs Association, Noida.
Meanwhile, Pachauri told TOI that the varsity plans to collaborate with Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Lucknow to provide start-up opportunities to students. “We expect to sign the agreement by this month,” he said.
According to Pachauri, the objective of the exhibition is to take the local products to the international market.
