No water for 11 days, residents block road
Dharwad: The residents of Anjaneya Nagar near Kelgeri blocked the Dharwad-Goa road for over an hour late on Monday night to protest the failure of Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation and the Water Board to supply drinking water to the area.
They alleged that the area has not been supplied water for the past 11 days and several pleas to the authorities had fallen on deaf ears.
Agitated over the unresponsive attitude of elected representatives and officials, the residents hit the street and blocked the road. Traffic on Dharwad-Goa road was disrupted for over an hour. Women and children came out of their houses with empty vessels and sat on the road. They alleged that elected representatives did not turn up to listen to their grievances nor had any officer bothered to solve the problem.
Police had a tough time convincing the protestors to allow traffic movement on the road. When the protestors did not relent, police officers arranged for water supply for some time and pacified the protesters.
Finally, the residents agreed to end the protest with a warning that they would resume the protest if regular water supply is not ensured.
