Prisoner beaten to death by jail inmate in Bihar

PATNA/KHAGARIA: A 28-year-old undertrial was allegedly beaten to death by another inmate inside the ward of Khagaria district jail late Monday night. They had a heated argument before the incident. A murder case has been registered against the accused and he was shifted to the high security cell on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Rajan Kumar, son of Nandkishore Singh of Banni Basa village under Sonbarsha Raj police station area in Saharsa district. Khagaria DM Alok Ranjan Ghosh said the victim was brutally assaulted by another prisoner Pramod Choudhary over some issue. "The jail officials took him to the hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Investigation is going on," he said.
Khagaria jail superintendent Dharmendra Kumar told TOI that Rajan was an accused in a robbery case lodged with Beldaur police station in the district and had come to jail on December 6 last year. "On Monday around 10pm, he had a dispute with Pramod of Dighaun under Beldaur police station area over bedding. Both were lodged in ward 23 of the prison. The victim died in the hospital," he said.
"A murder case has been lodged against Pramod at the Town police station. The family members of the deceased were informed about Rajan's death," he said.
SHO Sanjeev Kumar said preliminary inquiry indicated that Pramod beat Rajan to death after heated argument.
