Man booked for raping 9-yr-old stepdaughter

Ludhiana: City police on Tuesday booked a man for allegedly raping his 9-year-old stepdaughter. The case was registered on the basis of a zero FIR lodged by Mohali police on the complaint of the girl’s maternal grandmother.
Police have booked the accused under Sections 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.

In her complaint to police, the maternal grandmother of the girl said her daughter solemnised marriage with the accused in 2018. It was the second marriage of her daughter. After the marriage, she had taken her 9 year-old girl from the first marriage along to Ludhiana.
“However in 2022, I took my granddaughter along to my house as she was not able to study properly in Ludhiana. One day, I was telling her about good touch and bad touch when my granddaughter shared that her stepfather used to touch her badly. The things she shared made it clear that she was raped by her stepfather. It all went on for about one-and-a-half months in the absence of the girl’s mother. Thereafter, she immediately lodged a complaint with the police,” the woman said.
Sub-inspector Ashwani Kumar said the address of the accused shared by the complainant is incorrect. On asking if the girl’s mother is aware of the assault, the SI said as per the information, when the grandmother told her daughter about the matter, she did not believe it.
