‘Verify address of people visiting prison inmates’

Coimbatore: The city police have shot off a letter to the Coimbatore Central Prison authorities to verify the address of people visiting the prisoners, who are gangsters and involved in grave crimes.
The move comes after police found out that some close associates of notorious gangsters like Rocket Raja had visited them by furnishing fake addresses to the prison authorities.
According to a police source, more than five people have furnished fake addresses to the prison authorities to meet the president of Panangattu Padai Katchi, gangster Arumugapandian alias Rocket Raja and another notorious gangster, Kamarajapuram Gowtham.
City police commissioner V Balakrishnan said special police teams were closely monitoring details of the people who met Gowtham and Raja.
“We have traced one of the visitors - K Naveen Kumar, 20, of Kamarajapuram - who met Gowtham in the prison. He was arrested on Monday for possession of ganja for sales,” he said. tnn
