AMARAVATI: Renowned plastic surgeon and senior professor, Dr Sumita Shankar assumed charge as Director (research and development) at YSR University of Health Sciences (YSR UHS) on Tuesday. The state government appointed her as Director of research on deputation from Government Medical College (GMC), Guntur.
Following the instructions of the government, GMC principal C Padmavathi Devi relieved Dr Sumita Shankar from the charge of Head of the Department (HoD) of the plastic surgery wing and asked the pediatric surgery wing chief to take additional charge.
Meanwhile, Dr Sumita Shankar met the university registrar Dr Radhikar Reddy and gave the joining report. Dr Sumita said that she would strive to bring quality research activity among young medical professionals. She said that there was a need for young medical professionals to focus on research issues in order to get better results in the treatment of patients.
Dr Sumita recently completed the prestigious surgical leadership programme at
Harvard University. She was one of the two doctors who got a seat in the surgical leadership programme at
Harvard from India.
