Currently, the active case count is at 270 with 17 admitted to hospitals of which nine are suspected cases, and 8 confirmed.
According to experts, the sudden surge in Covid cases was partly because of similar symptoms it has with the H3N2 influenza. “People are coming for H3N2 tests and when those are turning negative, it is found that they are Covid-positive. Earlier, even when symptoms persisted, no one came for tests,” said a senior doctor at Lok Nayak Hospital.
The number of fresh Covid cases had dropped to zero on January 16 for the first time since the pandemic swept the world. With the fresh cases, the national capital’s Covid tally has risen to 20,08,087 and the death toll stands at 26,524.
Till March 9, the daily count of Covid cases had mostly stayed in single digits. The slight rise started from March 10 onwards.
The capital had on Saturday recorded 58 cases with a positivity rate of 3. 52%, and 38 cases with a positivity rate of 3. 13% on Friday.
Delhi reports 83 new Covid-19 cases and one death as positivity rate rises to 5.8%
The national capital on Tuesday recorded its second death from Covid-19 this year at a time case positivity is creeping up and the H3N2 influenza too has made many ill across the country. Delhi saw 83 Covid-19 cases with a positivity rate of 5.83% on Tuesday, the health department’s data showed. The first Covid death this year was on January 9 when only eight fresh Covid cases were recorded and the positivity rate was 0.62%. The capital on Monday recorded 34 new cases with a positivityrate of 6. 98%. On Sunday, the national capital logged 72 cases with a positivity rate of 3.95%.
