Ludhiana: At a time when councillors have gone full throttle to express their concerns over “non-issuance of work orders” regarding different projects in the city, MC officials claim that development works are going on at a fast pace and they have even tightened the noose around contractors over delay in completion of projects.
The MC has recently put three contractors on notice for delaying work in different parts of the city.
Officials claimed that the authorities are recommending debarring a few other adamant contractors, who have been delaying projects. The final decision over the same could be taken by the finance and contracts committee (F&CC) of the MC.
Speaking about development works, officials said in the last three weeks, the civic body has issued around 60 work orders for construction of roads, parks, installation of tubewells, sewer lines etc at a cost of over Rs 20 crore. Regular efforts are being made to expedite development works in the city.
MC commissioner Dr Shena Aggarwal said development projects are being monitored on a regular basis. Strict directions have been issued to contractors for expediting work.
She said the civic body has recently put three contractors on notice for delaying works. Other contractors have been warned of strict action if they failed to complete projects within the stipulated deadline, she added.
She said they have also been making recommendations to debar adamant contractors for delaying work.
Notably, in the past one year, development works related with roads were affected as works remained suspended due to change in the government and lesser funds available with the civic body. There are many areas where bitumen was not laid over road portion, leaving commuters in a tight spot.
