NEW DELHI: As many as 23 children who were working in three different factories in Jahangirpuri were rescued on Tuesday. The three factories that were engaging child labourers have now been shut. The accused in the case are absconding, claimed police.
Of the 23 rescued children, 17 are girls. They were allegedly forced to work for more than 15 hours a day and paid Rs 150-250 per day. The children, between the ages of 13 and 16 years, were working in factories that manufactured toothbrushes, steel polish and shoes, stated the rescue teams.
Some of them were also working on inverter parts.
The children hail from UP and Bihar and were allegedly trafficked to the city after the lockdown.
The rescue operation was carried out with the help of SDM Model Town, the labour department, Delhi Police and a team from SAHYOG Care For You (NGO).
