- President Biden on Monday signed a bill to release as much information as possible on the origins of COVID-19.
- In 2021, Biden instructed the US intelligence community to look into the origins, including the theory that the virus escaped from a lab in Wuhan. The COVID-19 Origin Act of 2023 aims to declassify as much information that has been gleaned so far that doesn't jeopardize national security.
- "We need to get to the bottom of COVID-19's origins to help ensure we can better prevent future pandemics," the president said in a statement.
- Both the FBI and the US Department of Energy have publicly said they believe COVID-19 began as a result of a lab leak at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
