Vasco: Residents of Baina and the surrounding areas staged a protest at the local PWD office against the acute water shortage.
The councillor of the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) and vice-chairman of Goa Human Resource Development Corporation, Deepak Naik, led the protest on Monday.
Several women from the locality were part of the group.
Speaking to TOI, Naik said that Baina residents have been facing a severe water crisis for several days.
“Despite many complaints, authorities have turned a blind eye to the problem,” Naik said. “The agitated locals approached me, and it was decided that a protest will be held at the PWD office to highlight the department’s failure and seek redress.”
Naik added, “The women have now decided to intensify the agitation if PWD authorities fail to resolve the crisis at the earliest.”
Mormugao taluka has been reeling from water shortage for the past month. The water crisis at New Vaddem has not yet been resolved either. Residents of New Vaddem have also decided to launch an agitation at the PWD office if the crisis persists.
