Vijayendra: Sorry to see Siddaramaiah searching for safe seat
Kalaburagi: Taking a dig at and in a show of mock sympathy towards former chief minister and leader of the opposition Siddaramaiah, BJP’s state unit vice president BY Vijayendra said on Monday that things shouldn’t have come to such a pass that the veteran Congress leader is left searching for a suitable constituency to fight the forthcoming assembly elections from.
Speaking to media persons in Raichur, Vijayendra said it is ironical that Siddaramaiah, who is projecting himself as the next chief minister, is caught in such an embarrassment. When asked if he would fight against Siddaramaiah if the seasoned Congressman decides to contest from Varuna, Vijayendra ruled out such a possibility, saying he had already started working in Shikaripura, as demanded by the BJP workers. Moreover, he said, senior BJP leader BS Yediyurappa had announced his name as the party’s likely candidate for Shikaripura, though union leaders would also weigh in on the subject.
He said that given the fact that BJP is a national party, it is the high command that decides on ticket distribution and personal or familial ties don’t count at all. He further said tickets will be distributed based on the candidates’ eligibility and their ability to strengthening the party.
When asked about V Somanna, who had revolted against him, Vijayendra, while saying that he wasn’t upset about it, added that Somanna was a senior leader and whatever he said would be considered a blessing.
