BELAGAVI: KPCC president DK Shivakumar appealed Nirmalananda Swamiji of Adichunchanagiri Mahasamsthana Mutt, to take lead against
BJP’s communal agenda of creating disturbance in the society through imaginary characters- Uri Gowda and Nanje Gowda, claiming that they were the ones who killed Tipu Sultan.
Shivakumar alleged that BJP leaders were trying to hurt the sentiments of the people by changing history in a false way and said it was condemnable. Seer Nirmalananda Swamiji should boycott such elements and call a meeting of different organisations, historians, writers, and pro-Kannada organisations to protest such anti-social efforts, he added.
Addressing a press conference at Congress office building here on Monday, theKPCC head urged the seer not to hold meeting with MLA Munirathna, who had announced that he will be making a movie on Uri Gowda and Nanje Gowda.
Calling Munirathna an anti-Vokkaliga, Shivakumar said the seer has no need of holding any meeting or negotiation with Munirathna.
“Almost two centuries have passed since the death of Tipu Sultan. Everybody knows his contribution to Mysuru region, in the construction of KRS Dam, his support to the Hindu temples etc. This has been registered in many history books and government gazetteers. Former president Ramnath Kovind had detailed the contributions of Tipu in the Karnataka assembly. However, BJP leaders like CN Ashwath Narayan, Shobha Karandlaje and CT Ravi are trying to write ‘new history’ and giving caste colour to it. Vokkaliga community has been insulted by such false claims made by the BJP,” he alleged.
Shivakumar also said this is not the first time BJP had engaged in twisting the history of stalwarts.
Earlier, they tried to change the narratives of prominent personalities like Basaveshwar, Narayana Guru, BR Ambedkar, Kuvempu and many others.
He said it is time to expose the true face of BJP. He appealed to various social organisations and seers of Veerashaiva Lingayat mutts to condemn the BJP’s attempts of changing historical facts.
He said when Congress is thinking of people’s lives, while BJP is banking on emotional issues.
