Absconding accused arrested after four years
Mangaluru: The city police have arrested an accused who was absconding for four years, recently. City police commissioner Kuldeep Kumar R Jain said the accused Venkatesh Rama Bovi is a convicted warrant accused who has been absconding for four years in connection with a case reported in 2008.
Kuldeep Kumar R Jain said, the following year, the 4th Additional District and Sessions Court had convicted the accused in connection with a sexual assault and kidnap case to seven years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 4,000.
The Kavoor police had booked a case against Venkatesh Rama Bovi under IPC Sections 366, 346, 376 and 506.
Once convicted, he was then shifted to Belagavi jail. He then appealed the high court in 2011 and was out on interim bail.
He skipped court
The high court upheld the judgement of the lower court in 2018 and his judicial custody continued. However, the accused never appeared before the court and has been absconding. Following this, an arrest warrant was issued by the court. A special team was constituted and based on reliable information the accused was picked up recently.
