After rain, residents complain of exposed & damaged wires in Greater Noida
Corroded poles a major concern
NOIDA: Following light rain over the weekend, many electric poles, open panel boxes and cables in Sector Delta 2 are posing the risk of accident with live currents flowing through the wires.
Residents have also complained about electric poles that are corroded and damaged at the base, raising concerns that they might collapse soon.
“Wires dangling dangerously from the light posts in several areas, especially blocks J and H, pose a threat of accidents. There are also several open panel boxes and rusting poles many of which are damaged at the base. We have earlier raised concerns with the GNIDA but no action was taken. The recent showers have only made them more accident prone,” Alok Nagar, general secretary of Sector Delta 2 residents’ welfare association, said.
Jeet Singh, a resident of Sector 36, said the open panel boxes required urgent attention as children playing outside were mostly unmindful of these dangers. “Elderly residents and stray cattle are also prone to accidents due to live currents in these poles,” he said.
Meanwhile, streetlights have stopped working in several sectors, including Sector Beta 1’s C block and Sector Delta 1’s F block, post showers. Keshav Khandela, the project in charge of Surya Roshni, the contractor engaged for streetlights in Greater Noida, apprised that a JCB work had damaged the cable which was being rectified on Monday.
GNIDA’s senior manager (electrical) Gurvinder Singh told TOI that work related to the repair of poles and open panel boxes was underway in Greater Noida. “I’ve directed the staff to fix damaged poles and open panel boxes and check for live currents with immediate effect,” he said.
