NASHIK: Ahmednagar Police recently arrested three people involved in a case of robbing a farmer from Sonegaon in Jamkhed taluka of Maharashtra's Ahmednagar.
Dattatray Birangal (47) used to sell his agricultural produce in Barshi in Solapur district and also take along the produce of other farmers from his village for sale.
On February 15 at around 7pm Birangal and his employee Ganesh Kamble of Sonegaon were returning to their village on a bike after selling the produce in Barshi.
They were carrying cash of Rs 10 lakh with them.
When they were passing from Dhanegaon village, two people riding a bike without a registration number plate stopped the farmer.
After pushing Kamble down the road, they beat up the farmer and decamped with the bag of Rs 10 lakh.
On the complaint of Birangal, the Kharda police of Jamkhed taluka in Ahmednagar had registered an FIR against the unidentified robbers for offences punishable under relevant sections for armed robbery.
SP Rakesh Ola had taken serious note of the robbery and had instructed the Ahmednagar Police to ensure that the criminals who had robbed the hard-earned money of the farmers, were arrested at the earliest.
During the course of investigation, the police got information that the complainant's employee Kamble had a hand in the robbery as it was he who had given a tip-off to the duo that his employer and he would be carrying Rs 10 lakh with them on their way to the village from Barshi on the particular day.
Further, the police also got information that the trio would be meeting to discuss the distribution of the money among themselves.
Working on the tip-off, the police laid a trap at a particular place in Kharda village and arrested the three suspects — Tushar alias Sonya Deepak Alhat (19), Pruthviraj alias Babalu Balasaheb Chavan (20), both of Sonegaon, Jamkhed — and Ganesh Kamble.
Though the suspects tried to prove that they were not involved in the robbery, they eventually buckled down to the interrogation techniques of the police and confessed to the crime.
The police recovered Rs 7.10 lakh of the robbed money and the bike used in the crime.
