An official of Vigilance Bureau (Ludhiana range) said Vaid has been questioned related to his properties and other assets. Vaid cooperated with officials during questioning, he added.
“He will be summoned again next week. He has been asked to bring documents related to his properties, investments and bank accounts. Meanwhile, the VB will get details related to Vaid’s properties from the revenue department, Ludhiana improvement trust and municipal corporation, details of which are awaited. After examining the details that we expect to receive soon from the departments and documents submitted by Vaid, the VB may reach some conclusion,” the official said.
On March 13, the VB Ludhiana Range had conducted a raid at Kuldeep Vaid’s residence in posh Sarabha Nagar area. A technical team from VB headquarter had reached there for evaluation of properties and assets owned by Vaid. During this raid, the bureau team found bottles of imported liquor and liquor meant for sale in Chandigarh from his house. Though Vaid and his councillor son Harkaran Singh Vaid had two permits to possess liquor, the quantity of bottles was more than the permitted limit. Therefore, an FIR under Excise Act was lodged against Vaid.
Thereafter on March 14, the VB team had conducted a raid at a commercial building owned by Vaid on Pakhowal road which is given on rent to a bank, a hotel and a restaurant and bar. During the raid, the bureau had found that the map of the building approved only two floors of the building, whereas the building has five floors. A report on the same has also been sought from the municipal corporation.
The VB so far got details of nine properties owned by Vaid. Vaid’s wife has retired as a principal from a government school, while his son Harkaran Singh Vaid is Congress councillor.
