Ponda: Karnataka excise officials seized around 158 litres of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) at Anmod checkpost near the Goa-Karnataka border on Tuesday afternoon.
The stock was concealed inside a Gujarat registered tempo.
Excise officials arrested the tempo driver Firoz Hajibhai Locha and seized the liquor along with the vehicle.
Excise sub-inspector Shrikant Asuldekar said that strict checking of vehicles entering Karnataka is being conducted given the ensuing general elections in Karnataka.
Sources said that with Karnataka going to elections, there is a possibility that liquor is being transported in large quantities from Goa to the state, and that could be used to influence voters.
