Karnataka polls 2023: Ticket aspirants shower freebies in Chamarajanagar

MYSURU: With assembly polls around the corner, ticket aspirants have started to woo voters by distributing various kinds of freebies in Chamarajanagar district.
Aspirants are holding health check-up camps, hosting non-vegetarian parties, providing funds to hold village festivals and sponsoring sports events to woo voters.
In the previous assembly polls, the Congress has won in two segments -- Chamarajanagar and Hanur — while the BJP and BSP had won one each seat in Gundlupet and Kollegal respectively. However, the BJP’s tally has increased as BSP expelled its MLA N Mahesh, who has now joined the BJP.
While it is a straight fight between the Congress and BJP, the JD(S) and BSP are making all efforts to woo voters. In almost all the four assembly segments of the border district of Chamarajanagar, aspirants have reached out to voters by holding special eye check-up and health screening camps, sponsoring funds for youth organisations to celebrate village festivals. Some of the aspirants are helping the voters by providing funds in the event of death in the family and financial help during marriage.
Some have attempted to reach women voters by sponsoring tours to Om Shakthi and other religious sites.
Tractors distributed at subsidised prices
Supporters of BJP leader KM Rudresh, who heads Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KRIDL), and is also one of the ticket aspirants from Chamarajanagar assembly segment, gave away 100 tractors to voters of his constituency at subsidised prices to mark the birthday of former chief minister B S Yediyurappa on Sunday.
“Yediyurappa always has special concern for farmers. To mark his birthday, my supporters have extended 100 tractors to selected beneficiaries at subsidised prices,” he told TOI. There are plans to distribute additional tractors to farmers in Chamarajanagar in the coming days, Rudresh said.
