'Jill's Steals & Deals' Adds NBCU On-Screen Buying, Checkout Capability

“Jill’s Steals & Deals,” product segments, which have been featured on NBC’s “Today” show for 13 years, now offer broadcast viewers the ability to purchase by scanning on-screen QR codes, via NBCUniversal’s Checkout function.

The capability debuted March 9 on the commerce broadcast franchise, during which host Jill Martin offers a curated selection of products at deep discounts.

NBCU Checkout lets viewers scan the on-screen QR code with their mobile devices to purchase products — in this case, directly on a “Today” web page.

Streaming commerce is one major component of NBCU’s cross-media marketing and advertising strategy, powered by its One Platform converged linear TV/digital advertising tech stack that enables unified access across linear TV and digital media.

NBCU Checkout, the consumer-facing technology for NBCU’s Must ShopTV commerce platform, has been employed to enable on-screen shopping via mobile devices on the Peacock original series “Love Island,” in a livestreamed holiday shopping event on E! selling Walmart products, and for NBCU’s Bravo Bazaar shopping event during Bravocon, among other applications.

NBCU, which is already in the process of integrating Checkout in Comcast’s Xfinity X1 devices, announced during its One23 developer conference last month plans to integrate Checkout and Must ShopTV in Peacock.

The capabilities will include advanced shoppable product placement, powered by KERV Interactive, which identifies objects in video and makes them interactive and shoppable. Viewers will be served the exact or similar products within the One Platform Commerce Marketplace, all purchasable using a remote.
