Jaipur: Nearly 4,000 farmers from
Rajasthan will participate in the Kisan Mahapanchayat to be held, under the banner Samyukt Kisan Morcha, over unfulfilled promises at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on Monday, said Himmat Singh, state president, Kisan Morcha Rajasthan.
The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) had called off their one-year long protest on December 9, 2021. The decision to call off the protest was taken by the farmers after the central government promised to form a committee on MSP and withdraw all cases against the farmers immediately.
The farmers had been on a sit-in protest for almost a year since November 2020 against the three farm laws.
The Centre's letter, on the letterhead of the agriculture secretary, had also mentioned that the governments of
Uttar Pradesh and Haryana had given in-principle consent to giving compensation to the families of farmers who lost their lives.
On November 19, 2021, PM Modi announced the Centre would repeal the farm laws. The Farm Laws Repeal Bill was passed by both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on November 29. President Ram Nath Kovind had given his assent to the Bill.
