Register your boats to operate in Ganga before Mar 31: Admin to boatmen

Varanasi: The district administration has fixed March 31 as the deadline for registration of all boats operating in river Ganga.
District Magistrate S Rajalingam on Saturday said that after March 31, only registered boats would operate in river Ganga; hence, registration of each boat by the date is a must.
While addressing a meeting of boatmen convened by Varanasi Municipal Corporation (VMC) in Bhelupur area, the DM also directed to fix tariffs for boat booking and ensure uniformity in the colour of boats to showcase a better image ahead of the G-20 events.
Besides, boatmen were strictly instructed to keep life jackets and other safety gadgets inside their boats and avoid overloading.
The official also asked the boatmen unions to suggest rate cards for boat bookings and fix tariff for passengers.
