New dist brings silver shoes for barefoot MLA of Balotra

Jaisalmer: CM Ashok Gehlot’s announcement fulfilling the long-pending demand of making Balotra in Barmer district a separate district has brought an atmosphere of celebration in Balotra.
The local Congress MLA, Madan Prajapat, has been walking barefoot for the last one year to press for his demand to make Balotra a separate district. With this demand now fulfilled, his supporters left for Jaipur with a pair of silver shoes weighing 750 grams for him. Gehlot will make Prajapat wear the silver shoes, said sources.
Prajapat had said in the Assembly that he would not wear slippers or shoes till Balotra was made a new district. He had been working barefoot for the last one year. He was continuously advocating to make Balotra a separate district. In the last Budget session of the Assembly, there was a lot of hope that Balotra would be declared a district.
After Gehlot announced Balotra as one of the 19 new districts on Friday, there were celebrations in this town and nearby villages. People started offering sweets to one another as if they were celebrating Diwali.
A huge crowd gathered outside the residence of Prajapat and thanked him for the government’s decision. The MLA wished his supporters through video calling and thanked everybody. People also burst firecrackers in celebration of the decision.
