Rare kidney surgery done at KIMS
Hubballi: KIMS director has claimed that doctors have performed kidney transplantation between persons of different blood groups. Such procedures have been done in private hospitals but KIMS is the first government hospital to conduct such a surgery.
KIMS director Dr Ramalingappa Antaratani said the surgery was successful and the receiver is stable after 42 hours of the surgery. “Normally, this surgery costs Rs 3.9 lakh but we conducted it at Rs 2.7 lakh,” he added.
“The team comprising Venkatesh Moger, Malagouda Patil, Vivek Ganiger, Raviraj Raikar, Jaideep Ratkal, Manjunath Prasad, Sampatkumar NG, Chetan Hosakatti, Madhuri Kuradi, Sheetal Hiregoudar, Roopa, Purushottam Reddy and Shivanand Honakeri did an excellent job,” he said.
Nephrologist Dr Venkatesh Moger said all precautionary measures were taken for receiver Abhishek Bogar, 25, whose blood group is A positive. “His mother Padmavati intended to donate but her blood group was B positive. Hence it was a challenging task to conduct the surgery,” he said and congratulated both son and mother.
