BENGALURU: Eight years ago, the people of Jigani were shocked when they discovered chopped body parts of a young man packed in three bags and dumped in three different places, including a lake. The head of the deceased could not be found.
However, police did not give up. On Saturday, they claimed to have solved the murder mystery by arresting two persons - Bhagyashree and her live-in partner Shivaputra. The murdered youth was identified as Lingaraju Siddappa Pujari of Vijayapura district. Shockingly, Lingaraju was allegedly killed by his own sister.
Police said Bhagyashree and Shivaputra had been friends since their college days in Vijayapura district. But as they feared family opposition to their relationship, they moved to Bengaluru in 2015, lived together in a rented house at Vaderamanchanahalli near Jigani, and worked in Jigani Industrial Area.
Trouble fomented when Bhagyashree's brother Lingaraju came to the house and found out about his sister's affair with Shivaputra. He took objection to it and a fight broke out between the siblings. In the melee, Shivaputra and Bhagyashree overpowered him and killed him. Following this, the duo chopped his body into pieces and packed them into different bags. While the bag containing his arms was abandoned near a meat stall, another was dumped in a lake nearby. Police said they received information that the two were staying in Nashik in Maharashtra by assuming new identities. Based on the information, cops arrested the duo and brought them to Bengaluru.
