Scattered rainfall & overcast sky turns weather pleasant
Prayagraj: Denizens of the Sangam City continued to witness overcast conditions and enjoyed the pleasant weather, on Saturday. The mercury, which was nearing 40 degrees at the start of the week, has been around 30 degrees during the last three days.
The cool breeze and layers of clouds not only brought down the mercury, but sporadic rains also made the weather pleasant for the entire day. Although the maximum temperature of Saturday was higher than that of Friday (by 1.3 degrees), the pleasant weather brought down the minimum temperature drastically. The maximum temperature on Saturday was recorded at 32.4 degree Celsius, the minimum temperature was recorded at 17.4 as compared to 20.6 degrees as recorded on Friday. Likewise, the relative humidity (RH) too was quite high. The maximum RH was 80% while the minimum was recorded as 77%.
The pleasant weather condition also brought sporadic rains at some of the localities of the city in the afternoon. The sudden turn of the weather came as welcome news for the denizens, especially for kids who were seen coming out of their homes and flocking the parks. Bat and ball came out and so were youngsters coming out to fly kites. Not only parks of the localities, but pleasant weather brought smiles on the faces of shopkeepers who otherwise have thin attendance of the customers because of the scorching heat. Market areas like Civil Lines, Katra and Chowk witnessed hectic activities, as people came out of their houses for shopping, more because of the power disruption in their respective locality because of ongoing strike of the power department staff. Few villages of Pratapgrah received heavy to very heavy showers accompanied by hailstorm. A woman died on Saturday evening due to lightning in Hinauti Pandey of Shankargarh police station area. As Suraj Kali Adivasi (55) wife Banni Lal Adivasi was coming towards the village from the farm, when it started raining. She took shelter in a hut, suddenly lightning struck the hut and she died. Locals have informed Shankargarh police about the incident.
“The rains, which have been caused by western disturbances, would be harmful for the ready Rabi crop as the wheat crop would suffer badly. Likewise, the blooming in Mango trees would also be adversely affected”, said prof AR Siddiqui of the department of Geography, Allahabad University. The city could witness thunderstorms and scanty showers in the next 24 hours, he added.
