Mixed response for new dists, celebrations galore
Jaipur: CM Ashok Gehlot’s decision to create 19 new districts in the state has met with mixed reactions of celebrations and disappointments both among the people and elected representatives.
While MLA Sandeep Yadav resigned as a member of Rajasthan Sub-Region Infrastructure Development Board (RSRIDB) as Tijara was not made a district, the residents of Beawar celebrated and expressed gratitude to the government for meeting their 50-year-old demand.
Leaders of both BJP and Congress in the tribal regions were seen claiming credit for Banswara being made a divisional headquarters and Salumber an independent district. The people of Barmer were disappointed as the town was not made a divisional headquarters.
“The people of Tijara are deeply hurt to see their long-pending demand of the place becoming a district ignored by the Gehlot government. I do not see any reason why that demand was ignored. Considering the sentiments of the people, I do not think I can hold any government post,” said Tijara MLA Sandeep Yadav.
Beawar saw celebrations as the town was elevated from a tehsil to the headquarters of an independent district. Shyam Sundar Sadnani, 62, a renowned numismatics living in Pali Bazaar in Beawar, recalled how he had participated in fasts, signature campaigns, protests and demonstrations for the demand for district status many times.
“I am happy to see the struggles paid off in my lifetime. I recall the first time I heard of the demand for a district was when I was in class V in 1969-70. I have seen my father and uncles participate in the movement,” he said.
