Hotel demolished in Yeoor forest in Thane
THANE: The Thane Municipal Corporation demolished a hotel-cum-bar namely Bombay Duck in the Yeoor forest area on Friday.
On Friday morning, the demolition squad led by assistant commissioner Sachin Borse reached the gates of the Bombay duck, a famous bar in the forest area and started to hammer the illegal structure which was in the sprawling over 10,000 sq ft inside the forest with the concrete structure, a civic official said.
The permissible area to construct was around 450sqft and the permission was then granted in 1999 to the hotel. However, the owner gradually started to make illegal structures which were over 10000 sq ft, said a civic official.
The entire illegal structure was raised to zero, which is said to be for the first kind; otherwise, the civic officials tend to make ‘weak demolitions’.
The action came only after the TMC was under fire for not taking any kind of action against the illegal structures. Various political parties as well as other various organisations criticized for turning blind eye on such illegal structures which are constructed in the ecologically sensitive area.
