Police to file closure report in Lokka case
Coimbatore: The crime branch-CID police have decided to file a closure report in connection with the death of Sri Lankan underworld kingpin Angoda Lokka, who died of cardiac arrest at Balaji Nagar in the city on July 3, 2020.
Maddumage Chandana Lasantha Perera alias Angoda Lokka alias Pradeep Singh was identified with the help of DNA samples from his mother in Sri Lanka, a police officer said.
Lokka, an accused in more than eight murder cases and drug smuggling cases in Colombo, had escaped to Tamil Nadu in 2017. He moved to Coimbatore in February 2020 and rented a house at Balaji Nagar. He was staying with Amanne Dhanji Mokkariya, 27, wife of his former associate Perera.
“After Perera was killed by a rival gang, Lokka murdered the rival gang members. Amanne fell in love with Lokka and moved with him to Coimbatore,” the officer said.
Lokka suffered cardiac arrest on July 3, 2020, and was rushed to a private hospital. But he died without responding to the treatment. The Peelamedu police registered a case under Section 174 CrPC. After postmortem, the body was cremated in Madurai.
Police arrested Madurai-based lawyer Sivakami Sundari, her friend Dhyaneswaran and Amanne for hiding the identity of the deceased. The case was later transferred to CB-CID’s Coimbatore unit. “We have completed the investigation and confirmed that it was a case of sudden cardiac arrest. We have proved the identity of the deceased through DNA match. Closure report will be filed before the chief judicial magistrate (CJM) court within a week,” the officer added.
