MADURAI: Days after A Isakkimuthu, a youth from Athimedu in Tirunelveli district who was stranded in Malaysia, appealed to the Tamil Nadu government, chief minister M K Stalin and the district administration, he was rescued and safely lodged in Indian Embassy on Friday.
Isakkimuthu had sent a video clipping pleading to save him from his employers who he said had tortured him when he asked for his salary. He had gone to Malaysia for electrician work but was made to work in gardens for the last four months without pay. His parents, accompanied by VCK functionaries, submitted a petition to the district administration seeking help.
Isakkimuthu’s story was published in newspapers including in TOI on March 16. Based on these reports , the government instructed the Commissionerate of Rehabilitation and Welfare of Non Resident Tamil to take necessary action.
Department sources said the Indian Embassy in Malaysia was immediately contacted by the commissionerate. Further efforts were made to locate him resulting in his rescue from his work place in Bahau, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. He was accommodated at the Embassy's shelter on Friday. The government is making necessary efforts to bring him safely to Tamil Nadu after completion of legal formalities, said an official.
