Coimbatore: Officials in the state highways department said the construction work of an elevated corridor on Avinashi Road for a stretch of 10.1km is going as per the plan and will be completed by August 2024.
An official said around 50% of work is completed. “The department has requested the revenue department to acquire 4.15 acres on Avinashi Road for construction of eight ramps.”
The department handed over the project to KNR Construction Limited in August 2020. As per the agreement, the project should be completed before August 28, 2024.
“Due to the pandemic restrictions, there was a shortage of workers for the project for two years. At present, the situation has become better and more than 1,000 guest workers are working in two shifts to complete the project. As of now, 50% of work has been completed and the entire work will be completed as per the agreement,” said the official.
“As many as 306 pillars should be constructed for the project. As of now 286 pillars have been completed. The remaining 20 pillars will come up at the Lakshmi Mills Junctions, Nava India Junction, Esso Bunk Junction and Hope College Junction. The company uses the segmental box girders method to construct the elevated corridor.”
The official added that 4.15 acres of land will acquired on Avinashi Road for the project. “Already the department had sanctioned 1,621.3 crore for the project and we estimate that at least 310 crore of the allotted amount will be given to the landowners as compensation. We requested the revenue department officials to speed up the land acquisition process.”
