BENGALURU: Police on Friday resorted to a lathicharge after a dispute between BJP and Congress workers turned violent at BGS ground in Vijayanagar, Bengaluru west.
The ruckus began when BJP members, including women, objected to Congress workers erecting banners for a musical event scheduled for Sunday. Participants had the opportunity to win an iPhone and two-wheeler.
BJP workers claimed Congress had taken permission from BBMP only for a women’s conference. This led to an exchange of words which quickly descended into violence. Both sides pelted stones at each other.
Laxman Nimbargi, DCP (west), said a couple of police personnel sustained injuries in the melee. “We will register an FIR,” Nimbargi said.
