PANAJI: In an unusual case, Valpoi police booked a 70-year-old veterinary doctor for allegedly selling his elder son’s farmhouse to his younger son.
PI Prajyot Fadte said that a preliminary inquiry into the matter revealed that the doctor, Prabhakar Aher, had bought the property and gifted it to his elder son, Bhushan. The farmhouse became popular among tourists.
Bhushan, in his complaint, said that his father forged his signature on the power of attorney and sold the property to the younger son, Bharat. Aher’s wife also signed the power of attorney.
Later, the same property was mortgaged to the Goa State Cooperative Bank for a loan of around Rs 1 crore, the PI said. Bhushan stated that he recently got to know about the property being mortgaged to the bank, and approached the police. Fadte said that police are in the process of verifying the claims and facts in the case.
“We have registered an FIR against Prabhakar Aher under various sections of the IPC,including Section 420 (cheating),” Fadte said.
