Marysville soccer's Tyler Dimmick starts training program for area youth

Being a high school athlete requires a serious time commitment. There are games, practices, workouts and training camps. On top of that, students must balance school work and a social life.
Tyler Dimmick is familiar with the grind. He's a junior on the Marysville boys soccer team.
But when Dimmick isn't on the field or in the classroom, he's running his own business. Did I mention he's just 17 years old?
"I kind of just pushed myself to try something new," Dimmick said. "I never imagined doing it before."
The Marysville junior established Dimmick Soccer Training LLC in August 2022. His goal is to help develop the next generation of soccer players in the Blue Water Area.
"It really came down to my love of soccer," Dimmick said. "For my first job back in middle school, I volunteered at the (Marysville Recreation Department). Then I became the leader of the soccer program there. And I just really fell in love with coaching.
"I had a family friend who was my first trainer. She was willing to hand me down her (soccer training) business as she was leaning away from coaching. So I took that on and built it into my own thing. I started training (area kids) last August."
That same month, Dimmick became a licensed coach through the United States Soccer Federation. He's played the sport for nine years, which includes time spent with various travel teams in the region.
"Tyler is very mature for his age," said Alicia Archibald of Marysville, whose sons Bentley and Brayden have been training with Dimmick for the past year. "He's a great kid and we trust him with our kids. He just pushes them to be their best."
"Every time I come (here), I always learn a new skill," Bentley Archibald said.
"He makes us learn new skills and we can improve," Brayden Archibald said. "(My favorite part about soccer) is that I can be faster (than other players)."
Dimmick's private training sessions are held at Skippers Skills Field in Marysville, which is located at 560 Busha Highway. In addition those one-on-one sessions, he also offers more group-oriented events. That includes an upcoming spring break clinic from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Marysville Park on March 31. Registration is $30.
"You try to find people that have a good knowledge (of the sport) that can teach your kids not just skills, but fundamentally the right way," said Jamie Demorest of Marysville, whose son Roman also trains with Dimmick. "And that's what your looking for. When I watch Tyler, (that's what I see)."
"He's just really skillful and I like working with him," Roman Demorest said. "It's just very comfortable for me working with Tyler and it's actually very fun."
Dimmick, who also works with the Marysville Recreation Department, is still adjusting to the challenges of running a small business. But now that his program is off the ground, the hardest part is behind him.
"It was kind of a struggle at the start," Dimmick said. "But now that I'm a few months into it, it's kind of smoothed out a little bit ... I've learned different time management methods being able handle schoolwork, keeping my grades high and continue playing soccer at the high school level and at the travel level during the spring."
Added Dimmick: "(This business) is for the whole St. Clair County area. Anyone who's interested can reach out."
