Elected representatives of local bodies in Canacona on Friday raised village-level issues, including water woes, with Environment and PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral who was in the taluka as part of ‘Prashasan Tumchya Dari’ programme of the government held to mark four years of Pramod Sawant-led government in the state and nine years of Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre.

Cabral along with Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar and Poinguinim sarpanch Savita Tawadkar visited underconstruction houses at Ziltawadi and Passal in the village and laid foundation stone for a new house, to be built under the Shram-Dham concept under the leadership of Tawadkar.

Satish Paiginkar, panch of Poinguinim, brought to the notice of the minister that a 90 mm water supply pipeline was to be laid at Welwada but it has not seen the light of the day for the past 10 years.
Khotigao sarpanch Anandu Dessai raised the issue of pending files related to two roads in his village.
On water woes, sarpanch Pratiza Bandekar highlighted that Loliem-Polem people were facing hardships due to water shortage and that water supply is restricted to only 2 hours in the village. She urged the minister to resolve the water problem.
A meeting as part of ‘Prashasan Tumchya Dari’ was held at the office of the deputy collector in Canacona.
Deputy collector Ramesh Gaonkar, Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) chairperson Ramakant Naik Gaonkar, nodal officer Vinayak Valwaikar, Manoj Korgaonkar, former director of Kadamba corporation Sarvanand Bhagat, officers of various departments, CMC councillors, sarpanches and panches were present.
Meanwhile, the minister declined the request of elected representatives to extend CRZ permits issued to tourism stakeholders of 5 years by another year explaining that the government had raised the renewal policy to 5 years from one year.
