GUWAHATI: The bodies of the two pilots killed in an Army helicopter crash in Arunachal Pradesh were flown to their home states on Friday after a wreath-laying ceremony at Tezpur.
“The mortal remains of Lt Col Reddy have been sent to his home town Yadadri (near Hyderabad), Telangana and Maj Jayanth to Madurai in Tamil Nadu in a special military plane,” Guwahati-based defence PRO Lt Col Mahendra Rawat said.
“Obeisance was paid with full military honours at Tezpur to the mortal remains of Lt Col VVB Reddy and Maj Jayanth A of Army Aviation, who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty on March 16 while on an operational sortie in Arunachal Pradesh,” the PRO said.
The wreath was laid on behalf of a grateful nation for their untiring services, he added.
The duo was killed when a Cheetah helicopter of the Army, on an operational sortie from Missamari in Assam to Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh, crashed near Mandala in West Kameng district on Thursday morning.
A court of inquiry has been ordered by the Army to ascertain the cause of the accident.
