KANPUR: The police here have initiated a probe into allegations of negligence levelled against a veterinarian in the city resulting in the death of a parrot.
Police took up the case after a report went viral on social media, highlighting how a parrot had died due to alleged negligence and how local police had refused to lodge a complaint in the incident.
The parrot was found by one Shamshad Ahmed on the terrace of his house in Juhi locality of the city on March 10. As the bird was ill, he took it to a pet clinic located at Hanumant Vihar for treatment. He alleged that the veterinarian put the parrot in front of a blower. Later, he took the parrot home and fed it the medicine prescribed by the vet. However, the parrot’s condition worsened on March 16 and it died.
Allegations are that when Shamshad reached the local police station to lodge an FIR, he was shown the door.
After the incident went viral on social media, police have started a probe.
Shamshad alleged that when he tried to lodge a complaint with the police alleging negligence on the part of the veterinarian, the police turned him out of the police station. The police only became active when Shamshad made the entire episode viral on social media. They contacted Shamshad and assured him of action after investigation.
A police official said action will be taken after the investigation.
Veterinarian Ashwini Singh told the media, “The parrot had become a victim of hypothermia and its condition was very bad.”
