Man involved in disposing body gets 5 years’ RI
Thane: The Thane sessions court has convicted a man from Navi Mumbai and sentenced him to five years of rigorous imprisonment for his involvement in disposing off the body of a murder victim.
The prosecutor informed that accused Kamlesh Bansal was found guilty of section 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) of the Indian Penal Code by the sessions judge Rachna Tehra.
Prosecutor EB Dhamal said that two other accused who were also tried in the same case were found guilty on charges of murder and also for disposing off the victim’s body, and were sentenced to life imprisonment in another order by the judge.
It was on July 4, 2015, that the accused killed the victim Katrikumar Jaiswal, and cut his body into pieces and packed it in plastic bags. They later dumped it in a dustbin near a public toilet at CBD railway station in Navi Mumbai.
In her order the judge noted that the prosecution has proved that the accused Bansal had helped the other two in disposing off the body, hence, falling under section 201 of the IPC. The judge acquitted him of the murder charges falling under section 302 (murder) of the Indian penal code.
The court was also told that due to the previous enmity the accused had brutally killed the victim.
The prosecution had sought maximum punishment for the accused, while the defence counsel sought linency considering the age and other factors as well. The judge along with the sentence also fined the accused with Rs 5000.
