LUCKNOW: The probe team constituted to look into the veracity of the video in which IPS officer Aniruddh Kumar is seen demanding a bribe of Rs 25 lakh, has sent the video footage for forensic examination to check if the tape was tampered with.
UP DGP, DS Chauhan had ordered a fresh probe into the allegations that the officer had allegedly demanded Rs 20 lakh as bribe through a video call.
The video had surfaced two years ago and a probe was conducted into the allegations of bribery after which the IPS officer was given a clean chit in the case.
Sources privy to the probe said that the entire video footage is being checked by the FSL and the sources through which it got viral.
A source said that no transactions were found in the officer's bank accounts yet.
Another official said that the probe conducted by the former Varanasi police commissioner into Kumar's role will also be checked again.
In the video, Kumar, posted in Meerut as additional superintendent of police (Meerut Rural), was seen talking to somebody on a video call that went viral on social media on March 12. The video was made viral via a private handle.
Similarly, a tweet that alleged that Kumar's wife IPS officer Arti Singh had not paid rent was also being probed. However, senior officers said that an inquiry found that she had paid all due rent and nothing was pending.
